The Perfect Wedding Dress

Posted by admin
October 1st, 2009

A lot of brides begin dreaming about their ideal wedding dress long before they are even engaged.

Selecting the perfect wedding dress is important as it is the one day that all eyes will be on you. A dress that is pretty without being too ostentatious and is also flattering to your figure will make sure that you are looking your best on your wedding day.

Majority of brides just know when they have on the perfect dress. From the instant they put on the dress, their natural instinct tells them this is the ideal marriage dress for them.

Finding the ideal dress can take rather a lot of time and after you find the dress, it may take up to four months for the dress to be ordered and sent to the store. Once the dress arrives in the shop you will need many fittings to make sure that the dress fits you completely. This means that you should start the search for a perfect wedding dress early, so you will not have to rush.

Though you could be convinced that you want a particular style for your dress, you might find that the style that looks so appealing in magazines does not suit your body type. You can also find that a style that you would have not selected can be flattering to your figure. The old proverb, “you won’t know unless you try it,” holds true for wedding dresses.

Dress Shoes on a Woman and a Man

Dress shoes on a woman and a man

A dress shoe (U.S. English) is a shoe used as a component of formal wear. A dress shoe is typically contrasted to an athletic shoe.Dress shoes are widely used in dance and for evening parties and special occasions.

Men’s Dress Shoes
Men’s dress shoes are most commonly black or cordovan in color. Other colors include: brown, burgundy, oxblood, chestnut or white.

Loafers
Loafers come in both men’s and women’s styles. It is not unusual for a man’s loafer to have a tassel, although a tassel can be seen in women’s varieties too. In actuality, the men’s and women’s loafers are quite similar, which is why the loafer is typically thought of a more masculine shoe.

Oxfords
Oxfords lace up and tie to keep them on the wearer’s foot. They are typically made of leather, but can also be constructed of suede and other similar materials. Some Oxfords have an additional piece of leather sewn over the toe section.

Brogues
Brogues, or wingtips (the standard American name), are similar to oxfords, but different in that the additional piece of leather sewn over the toe section is in a W shape, resembling that of a bird’s wingspan, hence the American name for these shoes. While a brogue is a specific shoe, the term “wingtip” can refer to any type of shoe that has the W shape on the toe, including boots.

Tips For Selecting a Dress for the Special Occasion

How to Choose a Dress

There are many things to consider when you are trying to select a dress for your special occasion. Some of the more important considerations for choosing the right dress include the color, dress style, and comfort.

The color of your dress should flatter your skin tone. If you have an olive skin tone, you’ll want to avoid dresses in pink or yellow, while a peach colored skin tone will want to avoid orange and red dresses. Some people say black is flattering on everyone, but people with pale skin tend to look very washed out when they wear black clothing. Grey seems to look nice on all skin tones.

The style of dress is important in your mission to choose your best look, and should be determined by your body shape. Petite ladies are flattered when wearing A-line style dresses, and avoid the old-fashioned bell-shaped ball gowns, as they appear to “swallow” you up. If you have a larger than desired bottom section, you should select a dress with thin straps or no straps; and/or a dress with a draping bustle in order to bring the eyes upward and away from your trouble spot. Ladies who are insecure about their stomachs should consider dress styles with empire waists or corset style tops, while ladies who are insecure about their arms should avoid strapless or sleeveless dresses and select short sleeved or pretty see-through sleeves in lace.

The Best Plus Size Prom Dress For Your Body

Posted by admin
August 23rd, 2009

If you are looking for a prom dress this season, it may seem like prom dress designers have forgotten what so many women look like. It seems like too many department stores offer dresses in a limited range of sizes, with 2 being the most common prom dress size. If you’ve seen, “The Devil Wears Prada,” you are familiar with the ever-shrinking dress sizes.

Fortunately, many top designers offer their dresses in all sizes, ranging from a size 2 to a size 18 to a size 32. So don’t give up! There are many plus size prom dresses available. Before you go shopping in a store or online, it helps to have an idea of what size you are and which dress styles will look best on your body type.

How Do I Measure Myself for a Prom Dress?
To find your size, you need to measure your bust, your waist, and your hips.

- Bust: Measure your bust at the fullest part with your arms down by your side. If you are going to be wearing a fitted bra under your prom dress, put on the bra before measuring. You may be anywhere from 40 inches (a size 12) to 50 inches (a size 22) to 61 inches for the bust measurement.
